Air Source Heat Pumps versus Boilers
With energy costs rising year-on-year, one way of decarbonising, whilst benefitting from a more energy-efficient, sustainable heating system is to install an air source heat pump. A condensing boiler is approximately 90% efficient at best, meaning that for every £1 you pay, 90p will heat your radiators and the other 10p will go straight up the flue. In comparison, with an air source heat pump, for every £1 you spend, you will generate £3 worth of energy!
Gas bills are set to rise, and electricity bills set to fall, due to solar generation and wind farms. When twinned with solar panels and battery storage, an air source heat pump is a great advantage. Government grants are only available through an MSC approved business such as ourselves, with cashback grants of up to £9000 and interest-free loans of up to £7,500 (as at 2023.)
Hybrid Air Source Heat Pump System
A hybrid air source heat pump system combines both a gas/oil traditional boiler with a heat pump. It is sometimes necessary to fit these types of systems in older, less insulated properties or where the homeowner would prefer a back-up boiler. The heat pump would be your primary source of heating, but when the weather changes and gets colder, the back-up boiler would kick in and work alongside the pump.
These systems can be set up by programming both your gas and electric tariffs into the unit. Based upon the heat output required and the outside temperature, the unit can make the smart decision about which fuel is the cheapest option at that given time.
